Ecosystems thrive in well-lit environments. For optimal results, place your ecosystem near a window with natural sunlight or under a fluorescent or grow light. If more than one animal passes away in a single day (occasional losses due to age or illness are normal), this could indicate the ecosystem requires additional light. Conversely, if the water begins to turn green, reduce the light exposure slightly to maintain balance. Adjusting the lighting will help support a healthy and stable ecosystem.

During the first three days after setting up or relocating your ecosystem, check it at least once daily to ensure all inhabitants are thriving and to determine if additional light is required.
